Nigel Leadbitter is a Canadian scriptwriter, dramaturge, and producer who splits his time between Latvia and Canada. His writing style is very character-focused and employs metaphors and symbolism to explore contemporary issues.

He has had the opportunity to apply his skills across many artistic fields, from contemporary dance pieces to feature films. Because of his background in psychology, much of his work focuses on the internal development of the characters in his writing and how best to represent their journeys.

He credits much of his creativity to having grown up on a remote island off the West Coast of Canada. He describes it as a place where the earth still remembers the days before man. A place where winter storms pluck trees from the ground and toss them into power lines. A place with forests so dense they swallow sound and light; and when you look out into that darkness the bright eyes of the monsters lurking there aren't shy about looking back. On that island, you are very much aware that mankind is a tenant in nature's domain.
